> Many high functioning autistic people and those with
Asperger Syndrome over the age of 25 years will be unaware of why
they find life difficult because, when they were at school, there
was much less awareness of these forms of autism, so they remained
undiagnosed.
>
It is very easy for an autistic person over the age of 20 to lose
contact with support services and become isolated because the
provision of services generally assumes a person or their carer
will ask for help. Autistic people will often not want to seek
help because they find it very difficult to relate their needs
effectively.
>
The Lost Generations project of the Brent Branch of the National
Autistic Society aims to establish routes whereby these people
can be brought back into contact with services. So, if you know
of someone who you think may be autistic or has been diagnosed
on the autistic spectrum in their past and has failed to get help
with education, employment health of housing, then please ask
them or their carer to let us know:
